Title: 1062774
Type: Placer Gold and Platinum Claim
Location: Coalmont, British Columbia
Located on the Tulameen River right at the historic town of Coalmont this claim is easily accessed with 2WD and provides a long working season in the beautiful Tulameen valley.
The bench area on this claim was explored historically as a prospect for a buried extension of the legendary Granite Creek and prospects still exist here for the tenacious miner. Within the current course of the river the south side of the claim provides a nice bar that dries out starting in late spring, providing a great spot for high banking. Later in the season an extensive mid-river bar can also be accessed for panning.
The Tulameen River area hosts one of the few significant placer platinum occurrences in the world and has a rare combination of placer gold and platinum in the same deposit with ratios as high as 1:1 noted in the geological files. The BC mineral file estimates crude gold production for the entire Tulameen River between 1885 and 1945 at 297,000 grams or approximately 9,500 ounces. Tulameen platinum production has also been recorded.
