Claim: 1084365
Type: Placer Gold Claim
Location: Quesnel, British Columbia

The Cotton Candy gold claim is a three-cell parcel encompassing roughly 144 acres along the Cottonwood River.  The area is a short half-hour drive from Quesnel, BC and is located in the Western part of the historic Cariboo mining region.  The property is situated in a section of the river that had historically been staked as a legacy claim and an ATV accessible trail exists to near the claim boundary with the last few hundred meters towards the river being accessible on foot.

This property presents a truly diverse and unique working opportunity for the determined hand miner.  A stunning mix of bedrock exposures, hill gravels, benches, canyon, and cobble banks are inter-mixed across the claim.

The terrain and geological features in the area present evidence of substantial faulting and volcanic activity presenting an interesting target for placer gold accumulation.  The claim has documented exploration activity in historical BC mining records that identify exceptional gold values in excess of several grams per cubic yard, while also showing substantial values of platinum and iridium in the black sands.

The BC Minfile on the Cottonwood River indicates “There are several placer gold deposits along the Cottonwood River. The deposits are located in benches ranging in height from about a metre to several metres above the present course of the river. The gold is derived from the concentration of pre-existing glacial or pre-glacial deposits, some may have been of Miocene age. The ultimate source of the gold may have been the auriferous veins of the Barkerville terrane from which the Cottonwood River drains. The pre-Tertiary geology of this area consists of mafic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Nicola Group of the Quesnelle Terrane. The Cottonwood workings produced alluvial platinum and gold. This is a common feature of many of the placer deposits in this region.”
